The Net for Exporters...by Des Donnelly Ver 8
The Internet has changing the rules of international trade and has created what could be described as a level playing field for all combatants - budget or size does not guarantee anything.
In this new technological
landscape it important to remember that for many industries geographical location
no longer has any meaning. The Internet allows people in all types of business
and in all industries access to "Real Information" on a 24 x 7 basis.
Here are a few sites which demonstrate this fact....
You don't speak Russian or French or Italian so you can't quote,
get translators here
The bank's closed you can't provide that price in Peseta,
relax, drop in here
What trade events are on this month?,
from an American perspective

This document provides a snapshot of some of the expertise and information
resources available to anyone with Net access.
The New Exporter | The Small Exporter | The Seasoned Exporters | The Last Word
You have minimal export experience, you would like to know more about exporting, perhaps a starting point would be:-
When you have spent a number of weeks working your way through one or both of these sites you are ready for the next stage. The comprehensive nature of these sites means that you will now have bookmarked or tagged some extremely useful sites which you can add to your own personal export trail. For more tutorials or sources of technical advice then visit Rexco's Experters
Your have now progressed to stage 2 or you are a small exporter with some export experience who is trying to increase current export sales.
Perhaps at this stage you would like to make your own enquiries on the Internet without incurring any real expense, or alternatively you may have someone on attachment or at College who is prepared to conduct some Internet research for you. Where is the best place to look for sales leads on the Internet?, hmmm let's try.........
South America maybe?
South America is often mentioned as a growth market, the first port of call
will be the IDB which is based in Washington, the
Inter-American Development Bank, a fast text link
The Washington IDB finances
projects in Latin America and the Caribbean for social and economic development,
such as building roads, installing power lines, opening health clinics, providing
safe drinking water, with the specific goal of improving the lives of the
people in the region. We think it is the No 1 resource on the overall region
and it offers the exporter the opportunity to check on projects in the pipeline
by
sector or by
country. When you're talking about countries they include:-
Argentina | Bahamas | Barbados | Belize | Bolivia | Brazil | Chile | Colombia
| Costa Rica | Dominican Republic | Ecuador | El Salvador | Guatemala | Guyana
| Haiti | Honduras | Jamaica | Mexico | Nicaragua | Panama | Paraguay | Peru
| Regional | Suriname | Trinidad and Tobago | Uruguay | Venezuela |
The Pacific Rim perhaps?
Perhaps you are more interested in the emerging economies of the Pacific Rim,
OK, so pick a country, do you want to look for sales leads in:- Japan
or Australia or Hong
Kong
A nice site to visit here, since you're in the area, is Yoshi Takada's Ten
important rules to develop successful business in the Japanese market.
Ah yes this could be the big boys, the exporambos, they may speak 3 or 4 languages, have substantial airmiles collections, great personal insurance packages and back-up export Departments at Head Office, they want export markets they can get their teeth into. They may be producing a specialist product and they have been exporting successfully for years.
Well if you're on the
move a lot you need to stay up to date
You need to be careful
you don't get caught in the odd coup
or held as hostage
but you still need
to keep up to date with stuff at home perhaps
You'll probably be
very active in Central and Eastern Europe, maybe even information technology
You have that pioneering
instinct, sometimes you even like to go do it yourself
From time to time you
may wind up far far away
But it will be all
worthwhile with some careful management and so to ......
This is Version 8 of our Exporters Story first introduced on March 22nd 1996 for presentation purposes. It is intended to provide a snapshot of trade resources on the Internet and to demonstrate to unbelievers that the Internet is getting to exporters everywhere.
Whether you're doing your
own trade research, or someone at College or University is doing it for you
perhaps you will agree with us that the Internet offers exporters some exciting
opportunities globally.
